Negative taken of Governor Winthrop Rockefeller hands award to Irene Aldridge as fellow students and media look on. Aldridge was the 1969 winner of a state essay contest. Miss Aldridge attended Lane College in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, completed graduate work at Arkansas State University and in 1985 lived in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Born in New York City in 1912, Winthrop Rockefeller settled in Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas following World War II. Serving as Arkansas Governor 1967-1971, Rockefeller was the first Republican elected governor of Arkansas since the Civil War.
